Back to school nutrition!
Healthy, quick, and fun meals that your kids will enjoy.

Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, especially for your children. Studies show that diets that are lacking in protein, vitamins, whole grains, and vegetables cause children to have lower academic achievement scores. Preparing a healthy breakfast doesn’t have to be either hard or boring for your kids. Here are some great breakfast ideas that your children will love and will make them more alert, perform better in school, and aide in proper development.

Breakfast Burrito
1 whole wheat tortilla
1 tablespoon salsa
1 tablespoons shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese
1/3 cup liquid egg substitute, such as Egg Beaters

1. Top tortilla with salsa and cheese. Heat in the microwave until the cheese is melted, about 30 seconds.
2. Meanwhile coat a small nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Heat over medium heat, add egg substitute and cook, stirring, until the eggs are cooked through, about 90 seconds. Place eggs on tortilla, roll into a burrito, and serve.

Breakfast Pizza
1 English muffin
2 tablespoons of low sugar tomato, pasta, or marinara sauce
2 slices of lean ham (Canadian bacon)
2 tablespoons of shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

1. Cut English muffin in half
2. Place a tablespoon tomato sauce on top of each piece
3. Top with cheese and lean ham
4. Either bake in toaster oven or microwave until cheese is melted

Banana Hot Dog
1 medium banana
1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
1 whole wheat hot dog bun
1. Spread peanut butter on bun
2. Top off with banana

Healthy Smoothies
1 cup low fat or skim milk
1 frozen banana
1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
1 cup of ice (if desired)

Mix all of the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until it reaches a smooth consistency
